❀ 𝓃𝑜𝓉𝑒𝓈 𝑜𝓃 𝓂𝓎 𝓁𝒶𝓃𝑔𝓊𝒶𝑔𝑒 𝓈𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁𝓈 𝒻𝓇𝑜𝓂 𝓂𝓎 𝒻𝒾𝓇𝓈𝓉 𝓉𝒾𝓂𝑒 𝒶𝓈 𝒶𝓃 𝒶𝓊 𝓅𝒶𝒾𝓇 ❀

As I enter my final week here in Spain working as an au pair, I wanted to compile a list of flaws in my knowledge and usage of castellano, most of which I only noticed when speaking with genuine Castilian Spanish speakers. I’m doing this now so that I can have a resource to consult when I continue with my studies.

♡ It turns out, the affirmative imperative still confuses me very much. Before this month, I must have been very British with my manners and rarely used this structure because the moment I had to tell my host kids to do something, I was stumped!

♡ I cannot roll my ‘r’s - something which I was already very much aware of - and need to stress the Spanish ‘j’ and soft ‘g’ sounds more - found that out when a new friend asked me repeatedly what I meant by “espona” (esponja).

♡ I do not know the names of nearly enough household items! Imagine having studied a language intensely for four years (technically eight) and needing to use SpanishDict because you forgot the word sartén.

♡ I speak far too slowly. My host parents - genuinely such lovely people - constantly finish my sentences for me because I take so long.

♡ I still can’t distinguish between por and para! College Phi would cry if she read that (if anybody has any good resources, please send them my way - at this point, I’ve tried everything).

♡ I need to learn when to use todavía and when to use aún in place of still.

♡ I must revise reflexive verbs.

I also do think it’s important to recognise my successes though and appreciate how far I’ve come:

♡ My use of the subjunctive and negative imperative is actually really good.

♡ I’m starting to nail the intonation change in questions.

♡ I can understand lots of different accents from Spain and beyond.

♡ I’m participating in full conversations with native speakers and making them laugh (with jokes, not my poor employment of the language).

♡ I am able to switch between English and Castilian Spanish easily without much thought.

♡ I can write recipes in Castilian Spanish - I translated one of my Gran’s recipes for my host family the other day!

♡ I am trying and I am learning so so much and that’s what counts!

this was supposed to be a little sketch but hmm i realized during this, i need to work on my coloring 😵‍💫 it never ends LOL ANATOMY PERSPECTIVE COLORS i feel like i can maybeeee paint a lil better but non-painty coloring is HARD DAM i put this pic thru like 3 filters on my phone cuz the og kinda sucked LMFAO my fault 😮‍💨 i would draw sukuna soo pretty like a bishie bl protag HEH 😏 and i think sukuna would be pretty good at drawing too i made that up in my head in canon he alr recites poetry so its similar methinks. he would draw u lovely in yamato-e style LMFAOIWJEJSJSJ aaaand check out the creamy crunchy cameo
